Increasing access to energy

600 million people in Africa do not have access to electricity. We aim to change that through our mini-grid business model.

1PWR is a company that specializes in providing access to electricity via solar mini-grids. Already well developed in Lesotho with a portfolio of 10 mini-grids and a 20 MW on-grid plant. In mid-2023, 1PWR acquired 3 local companies in Benin with mini-grid portfolios that will connect a total of 73 communities comprising 20,000 households, 1,500 small businesses, 100 schools, and 30 health clinics while serving a population of over 100,000 people with reliable, affordable electricity from renewable solar energy.

Our Mission

This task involves comprehensive studies for Benin. OnePower plans to work on 4 portfolios as detailed above. The focus is on the PROVES sites in this study (located in central and southern Benin). The PROVES sites already have a mini-grid that was built in 2017 and has never been operated. For the majority of these sites, electrification can be achieved quickly by OnePower thanks to the existing facilities. OCEF sites are under construction.

The projects we propose contribute to reducing gender inequalities by giving women access to income-generating activity.

Our Achievements

SAMIONTA

We are delighted to announce that OnePower Benin has reached a major milestone in our rural electrification mission. Our first solar power plant received official commissioning from ABERME (Benin Agency for Rural Electrification and Energy Management)!

It is not only a technical achievement, but also a life transformation for more than 2,000 residents who now have access to electricity. This project not only enabled the installation of the solar power plant, but also the establishment of an efficient energy distribution network.

We are proud to share that the villagers are already actively using this energy produced by the solar power plant.

This paves the way for a brighter and more sustainable future for all. We would like to thank all stakeholders for their support and commitment to this project. Together, we continue to work for an energy-independent and sustainable Benin.

GBOWELE

We are delighted to share exciting news about our electrification project in Gbowêlè. Our teams have worked tirelessly to establish a solar power plant which has the potential to transform life throughout the village.

We are now one step closer to realizing this vision. All that remains is to finalize the electricity network, and the population of Gbowêlè will be able to fully benefit from this installation. Imagine a future where every home is powered by clean, renewable energy from the sun.

We are proud to say that the project is moving quickly. Every day brings us closer to our goal of a Gbowêlè powered by solar energy.

We look forward to seeing the positive impact this will have on the community. In addition, we are proud to announce that this solar power plant will be our second installation in Benin. This is an important milestone for us and a testament to our commitment to sustainable development and rural electrification in Benin.
